These terms cover buying from makusteahouse.com and booking a tea tasting with Maku's Tea House, an online tea shop trading in New Jersey. Placing an order or making a booking means you accept them.
Ordering
An order is an offer to buy; it's accepted when we take payment and send your confirmation. We may decline an order — if something is out of stock, the price was listed wrongly, or we can't deliver where you are — and if we do, you aren't charged, or we refund you in full.
Prices are in US dollars and shown before you pay, including tax and shipping. We can change prices at any time, but never for an order already placed.
Tea tastings
Booking takes a $25 deposit, which comes off the price of your tasting. Cancellation terms are on the refunds page and form part of these terms.
- We come to the address you give us, and need safe, lawful access to it.
- Tell us about allergies before the day. Our teas and food are prepared in a kitchen that also handles common allergens, so we can't guarantee anything is free of traces.
- We may end a tasting early, without refund, if anyone is threatening, abusive, or makes the space unsafe to work in. This is not something we expect to use.
Accounts
Signing in uses a link sent to your email, so keeping that email account secure is what keeps your account secure. Tell us if you think someone else has access. We may close an account being used fraudulently or abusively.
Reviews
Reviews are read before they appear. We publish honest criticism — that's the point of them — but we won't publish anything abusive, false, unrelated to what you bought, or containing someone else's personal details. Posting a review gives us permission to show it on the site with your name.
Using the site
Please don't attempt to break into it, scrape it wholesale, interfere with other people's orders, or use it to break the law. The site's text, photographs and branding belong to Maku's Tea House.
Accuracy
We try to describe teas honestly, but colour, harvest and flavour vary between batches — it's an agricultural product. Photographs are illustrative. If a price or description is obviously wrong, we'll contact you before charging rather than hold you to it.
Health
Tea is a food and drink, not a medicine. Nothing on this site is medical advice, and nothing we sell is intended to diagnose or treat anything. If you're pregnant, on medication, or have a health condition, check with a doctor about caffeine and herbal ingredients.
Liability
Our responsibility for any order is limited to what you paid for it. Nothing here limits liability that can't be limited by law — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey.
Changes
We may update these terms; the version in force is the one published when you order. Material changes get a new date at the top.
